As a Cuba Rican that loves to try all sorts of delicious dining
experiences, I need to tell everyone about Asere, Cubano Kitchen Bar.
Asere is located a very short cab ride from Old San Juan in the very
colorful Plaza de Santurce, and effectively delivers the full
experience of visiting the legendary Cuba and the clandestine world of
the underground cuisine.
Asere’s Executive Chef Gabriel Marino with the fine touch of Chef Juan
Camacho bring an original Cuban menu showcasing dishes as the Tropical
Ceviche, Berkshire Pork Leg (Corobuta) with Cuban fufú and a fantastic
Chicken breast breaded Cuban style with marianense sauce. All dishes
were mouthwatering, but what reassured us of being at a genuine Cuban
restaurant was their succulent black beans which smelled and tasted
just like my grandma’s back in the day giving Asere, Cubano Kitchen
Bar the lead on our list of best Cuban restaurants in town.
After such a treat of a meal, you can always continue and head
upstairs to La Carniceria (The Meat Market) for a nightcap or simply
to continue mingling with friends. La Carniceria is a space away from
the crowds decorated beautifully to make their guests feel perfectly
set for an evening of vibrant music, drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Asere
is located in the #180 Dos Hermanos St. at the “Placita de Santurce”
opening Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4p.m. until 1:30 a.m. and
Thursdays through Sunday from noon until 1:30 a.m. You can always call
the restaurant for reservations at 787-946-3804 or visit
